Karmic Relief

I think that the issues people have been having with karma spontaneously dropping should be fixed at this point. There's been an overhaul of most of the moderation/meta-moderation/karmic system. We'll see how it works. I also artificially bumped the karma of those I thought may have been affected, to make sure more people could start discussions.

In the meantime, you have this discussion to enjoy. To start you off:

stuff sucks! discuss.

Thanks for the bump-- i love the way you're pointing your rocket launcher at Buddha. Oh, and that tiny meta-moderation bug is still occurring, causing the posts' actual scores to strangely show as empty parentheses () until i reload the page, then they appear correctly on the second attempt. All else seems fine, as far as i can tell. So nice of you to work hard to keep things all lovely for us!

I thought I had fixed that, but I think I missed a spot, you should try again now.

it's a tough one to test because it occurs when fetching "new" comments to metamod, not when re-fetching the same list, so I only get to test it once a day. Also, on MG3, because of the other karmic issues, no one has been getting moderator points, so there's never any comments for me to metamoderate. (not to mention the lack of comments also making that difficult)

Hopefully, the fixes will propagate themselves through the system, and we'll see things working more correctly.

Hey, look at that. I wondered why my karma was dropping and I hadn't posted anything.

Today's meta-moderation appeared to work correctly, as did the meta-moderation over at Goats.com also. So your work appears to have been successful, thanks.

Rejoinder: no, it doesn't.

Incidentally, was my guess [goats.com] about what was happening correct?

I'm afraid the karma troubles here are not fixed. The following happened to me again today:

-- A moderator posted to a Goats discussion containing a post of mine which he had upmodded (easy to see happening in real time if one checks the forums frequently),
-- my Goats karma went down (as it should) and
-- my MG3 karma, which I checked a few minutes later, went down by the same amount.

I have had no downmods here, nor have I ever moderated (and hence have never been metamoderated down), so it seems there is a bit of unintentional cross-pollination.

This is the fourth time I have seen this, but I could be wrong about what is actually happening. To help Phillip out: Did anyone else notice that your mysterious MG3 karma drops coincided with Goats karma drops caused by moderators posting?

It's not like Phillip won't have enough to do when he gets back from New Zealand.

When i was down-modded -1 Troll on the Goats forum, it had no effect over here. But i haven't recently lost Goats karma from any instance of "Moderator Jumping Into Discussions They've Already Moderated", so i can't provide further data on that particular scenario.

"Moderator Jumping Into Discussions They've Already Moderated"

There ought to be a word or two-word phrase that encapsulates this...

Anyway, yeah, my regular downmods didn't affect anything over here either.
